NEUROLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
Live the best possible life through our physiotherapy skills of empowerment, education & physical treatment to restore movement.
Neurological REHABILITATION
- Neurological Physiotherapy or neurorehabilitation is a specialty within physiotherapy that deals with conditions that affect the functioning of the nervous system. The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord and nerves.
- Importantly it’s this system of our body that controls all our movements. When there’s injury to the nervous system, normal coordinated movement is impaired. It can be difficult to move your limbs, to balance or walk.
- Symptoms such as muscle weakness, muscle stiffness, incoordination, pain, impaired posture or balance all affect our quality of movement and impact everyday activities.
Â
Neurorehabilitation specifically addresses these symptoms to help you move to the best of your ability.
Neurological Conditions
The variety and complexity of the neurological conditions we manage include:
- Parkinson’s disease
- Stroke
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Brain injury
- Facial paralysis
- Spinal Injuries
- Neuropathy
- Foot Drop
- Ataxia
Although this is no means an exhaustive list.
Many of the conditions we see are lifelong conditions, like diabetes or heart disease. This means managing a neurological condition begins on initial diagnosis and continues on a long term basis, with neurophysiotherapy playing an integral role in rehabilitation and recovery.
The treatment approaches we use vary depending on the condition and symptoms. But essentially, we use our skills in movement analysis, specific handling and exercise rehabilitation to relearn normal movement patterns and optimize function.
By working together, we help you move to the best of your ability, so you can continue to carry out activities that are important to you and lead an active life.
To effectively treat Neurological problems the clinician needs to have the following skills:
- An in-depth understanding of the neurological process.
- Knowledge of associated medical management (drugs, surgery, procedures)
- A good understanding of the complexity of the presenting problems
- Ability to carry out a comprehensive physical examination.
- Highly skilled in the analysis of movement and postural control.
- Ability to identify appropriate treatment options
